Ziro Festival of Music

Four days at Asia's most beautiful outdoor festival, in the Apatani tribal valley. Bamboo stages, rice beer, and a stay with the family hosting the festival's quietest after-party.

The Apatani valley of Ziro in Arunachal

Four days of outdoor stages in a valley of flooded rice terraces, running since 2012 and still much closer to a large gathering than an industry event. Independent Indian bands, and an audience that came specifically for them.

The Apatani valley is on UNESCO's tentative list for a wet-rice system that raises fish in the same terraces as the crop, without machinery or draught animals. September is the end of the growing season, which is why the festival sits where it does.
