Diwali week · Oct – Nov

Diwali nights in Jaipur

Three nights in a Pink-City haveli with the lit-up old town below your window, a private rooftop thali, and front-row at the Amer fort illumination.

Diwali lamps glowing at dusk

Jaipur treats the lighting of Diwali as a competition between its markets. Johari, Bapu and Tripolia are decorated to a standard that draws judges and enormous crowds, and the whole walled city glows for several nights running.

Traffic inside the gates effectively stops for the week. Being able to walk home to a haveli within the walls, rather than drive back out to a hotel on the ring road, is most of the difference between enjoying it and enduring it.
