Magh Mela on the Sangam
The smaller, more accessible cousin of the Maha Kumbh. A private tented camp on the sandbar, full sadhus-and-akharas access, the dawn snan.
A tented city goes up on the sandbar at the confluence every January, and thousands of kalpvasis move onto it to live austerely for the month. This happens annually — the Kumbh, which draws the cameras, does not.
The bathing days follow the lunar calendar and are enormous. Between them the camp is calm and the akharas are approachable, and that smaller scale is precisely what makes it possible to be there rather than be processed through it.
