11,800 ft, glacial water, prayer flags. The lake holds the sky better than any photograph will admit.
A village at around 3,600 metres where Kinnaur gives way to Spiti, built around a lake with willows at its edge and a small, very old monastery complex tucked among the houses.
The night sky here is as good as it gets in the Himalaya, and the village is quiet enough to sit out and use it. The road in is the old Hindustan–Tibet route, and it is not a relaxing drive.
