Open grasslands, hunting wolves, harriers roosting at dusk in their thousands — Africa transplanted to coastal Gujarat.
Flat black-soil grassland south of Bhavnagar, and blackbuck by the hundred — the males nearly purple-black in the rut, running at a speed nothing else on this plain can match.
At dusk in winter the park hosts one of the largest harrier roosts anywhere in the world, birds dropping into the grass in numbers that are hard to credit until you have stood in it. Wolves work the edges of the same fields.
