Valid Jun – Sep

Monsoon in the Sahyadris

Three slow nights in a plateau cottage, all meals and a guided rain-walk included.

Monsoon-washed plateau in the Sahyadri ghats

The Western Ghats spend eight months of the year brown, and then in the second week of June turn a green that photographs badly and looks faintly unreal in person. Waterfalls appear on cliffs that were dry the previous week, and the plateau tops flush with flowers that exist nowhere else.

It rains for most of the day, and that is the point rather than the risk. Bring shoes you do not mind ruining, expect leeches on the walks, and accept that the view will arrive and disappear several times an hour.

The shape of it

What this offer includes, in the order it happens. Valid Jun – Sep.

  1. Day 1

    Up to the plateau

The drive ends at the cottage. Nothing is scheduled for the first evening, and meals are served here from tonight onwards.

  2. Day 2

    The guided rain-walk

The walk goes out when the cloud allows rather than at a fixed hour, so the day is held loosely around it.

  3. Day 3

A day with nothing in it

The third day is deliberately unplanned. This is the part of the offer people come back for.

  4. Day 4

    Down

Breakfast, and the road back down through the ghats.
