Sixteen Naga tribes, ten days every December — log drums, fire dances, fermented rice beer, warrior dances you cannot see anywhere else.
Ten days at Kisama outside Kohima, the first to the tenth of December, where Nagaland's major tribes build their morungs and perform. The state started it to hold the culture together, and it works rather better than that origin suggests.
Come for the log drums, the wrestling and the food, and get out to the villages on either side of the festival if you can. Nagaland is straightforward to enter now, though the permit still exists.
