In Arunachal the Brahmaputra is called the Siang, and between Tuting and Pasighat it drops through a gorge that went unrun until the 1990s. Big-volume grade IV water, and long days between one road and the next.
The river is the spine of Adi country, and the trip is as much about the villages on its banks as the rapids between them. Arunachal requires an Inner Line Permit, and the run is strictly seasonal — the monsoon puts it out of reach entirely.
